Acacia wood serving boards bring warm color and natural grain to cheese, bread, fruit, appetizers, and everyday table settings. A simple care routine helps the surface stay clean and comfortable to use while reducing the chance of warping, cracking, or a rough finish.
1. Clean the board soon after use
Remove crumbs and food residue with a soft scraper or cloth. Wash the board by hand with warm water, a small amount of mild dish soap, and a non-abrasive sponge. Clean both sides so moisture is distributed more evenly.
2. Dry it promptly and completely
Do not leave an acacia board soaking in a sink. After washing, towel-dry the front, back, and edges, then let the board finish air-drying in a well-ventilated position. Avoid placing a wet board flat on a counter where moisture can remain trapped underneath.
3. Keep it out of the dishwasher and microwave
High heat, steam, and long exposure to water can stress natural wood. Unless the care instructions supplied with a particular item say otherwise, hand washing is the safer routine for wooden boards, plates, bowls, and utensils.
4. Condition the wood when it looks dry
If the surface begins to look pale or dry, apply a thin layer of food-safe mineral oil or a board-care product intended for food-contact wood. Spread it over all wooden surfaces, allow it to absorb according to the product directions, and wipe away any excess. Avoid cooking oils that can become sticky or develop odors over time.
5. Protect the surface during use
- Use gentle cutting pressure and avoid chopping in the same small area every time.
- Wipe up strongly colored or acidic foods promptly.
- Use a separate surface for raw meat when appropriate for your food-safety routine.
- Never place a very hot pan directly on the wood.
6. Store it where air can circulate
Store the board in a dry area away from a sink, dishwasher vent, or prolonged direct sunlight. Standing it upright or using a rack allows air to reach both sides. If several boards are stacked, make sure every piece is completely dry first.
Caring for mixed marble-and-wood boards
A board that combines marble and acacia needs slightly different handling. Wipe the marble with mild soap and a damp cloth, then dry it. Hand wash the wooden section without soaking the joint between the two materials. Avoid leaving acidic ingredients, such as citrus juice or vinegar, on marble for an extended period.
